I can't tell you which grey is most suitable but I can tell you how I
go about choosing a colour.

Install: x11/rgb

Then:

$ showrgb | less

will give you the names of the 256 websafe colours and their rgb
values.

I usually check out the colours by:

$ xterm -bg DarkSalmon

etc.

Alternatively, you can use css and set an html pages bg properties:

<style type="text/css">
body{
        background-color: rgb(233,150,122);
}
</style>

& view it in your browser.
