I figured out that I needed to change the grant to:
GRANT ALL ON ampache to 'ampache_user'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'xxxxx' ; Then I entered this passwrd in the step 2 install page, and tried to write the config file. I could not, but,as stated in the docs, it offered to ket me download it. I did so, and put it in /usr/local/www/ampache/config. I set the owner to www.
