So it IS listening on 5901. Also:

Amongst other things, netstat -ab reports on the Windows machine:

TCP              LISTENING
TCP              LISTENING
TCP              LISTENING

...which makes sense, since I'm getting through enough to trigger the error
on the FreeBSD system.
