There is no config file for imapd, and there are several authentication options when you compile it. It would be easier for you to just compile it yourself. imapd is the easiest program i've found to compile.

I've also found the development versions to be much more friendly (although don't count on SSL imap connections unless you have an old openssl library hanging around)
