I have seen this question posted a number of times without an answer, and there's a bug from June in the ports database regarding this issue. Running 4.8 and samba 2.2.8a.

I receive the following error when trying to change a samba password from a windows client: "The system cannot change your password now because the domain is not available".

Samba logs indicate:
[2003/10/07 11:00:09, 2] smbd/reply.c:reply_special(92)
netbios connect: name1=CPUXSV01 name2=IPAQDK
[2003/10/07 11:00:09, 2] smbd/reply.c:reply_special(111)

Failed to set gid privileges to (0,1001) now set to (1001,1001) uid=(0,1001)
[2003/10/07 11:00:09, 0] lib/util.c:smb_panic(1094)
PANIC: failed to set gid

Any help would be appreciated,

Clay
