I did check out the docs at /usr/local/share/doc/dvd+rw-tools/index.html
and they pretty much re-enforce what you said.
Any other ideas??
Double-check what's going on with your devices, what does "camcontrol devlist" give you? Maybe try using "/dev/cd0c" rather than "/dev/acd0c"?
Is there any chance you could try this out under FreeBSD 4.9 or so instead of 5.x?
