3) Try to identify subdirectories containing a lot of data within the filesystem which is too small, move them by mv to a filesystem with enough free space and symlink them back (ln -s) to the old location. But do not move the whole /etc directory from the root to another filesystem!
Newbie question here. Is the reason you don't suggest mv then ln -s for /etc because it is accessed very frequently so it would incur the most overhead to make this choice?
