I actually found that new RC flag for the authdaemon about 2 minutes after my last post, and that fixed my problems. I must confess I didn't notice the change in the SSL ones though.
Is there anywhere these kind of things are documented/displayed?
Yes, /usr/ports/UPDATING and sometimes in a port's pkg-message file, if one exists. If the port has a maintainer, communicating any surprises to that person will hopefully result in better documentation.
