Hi All,

While helping man the iHUG booth I had an opportunity to talk with two
members of Apple's former HyperCard programming team. I was told (a) Apple
has NOT decided whether to carbonize HyperCard for OSX, (b) it would take
less work to carbonize HyperCard than it took to make it PPC native, and
(c) there seems to be little support within Apple to formally open-source
HyperCard under their auspices.

In the aftermath of MacWorld, iHUG will initiate a campaign requesting that
HyperCard be carbonized. They will be enlisting the effort of everyone who
left their name & address at the booth as well as the Internet HC community.

I was told Apple MIGHT help a group such as FreeCard (formally or behind
the scenes), if HC is not carbonized and they don't take it open-source. I
left copies of the questions you passed on to me to one of the persons I
spoke to. He did not say whether he would/could provide answers; but
didn't rule it out...although (sorry Uli) I was told the data structure is
propriatary.

I came away feeling the best stratedgy is to continue on as we are going
while the effort to carbonize HC plays out. If and when we find out Apple
will not carbonize HC, we can make contact with Apple and try to get them
to assist us in our effort.

I've rejoined the HC List so I can monitor the carbonization effort. I'll
keep you posted.

Rob

PS: Don't ask me what the high points of the show were...I only made it
between the iHUG booth and the Mens room.
