Usage of .patch suffix instead of .diff has propagated from git using people
over last couple of years. We receive a lot of patches named that way already.
Recently I've also noticed that .patch suffix is automatically recognized by
various software better .diff.
I suggest policy change to prefer .patch over .diff, not that we have
rejected, or will reject, patches simply because they have wrong suffix in
their name. Attached patch makes related changes to documentation in svn (just
changes filenames in examples). There's probably some pages in wiki that would
require changing too.
