Follow-up Comment #2, patch #5487 (project freeciv):
As long as there is some way to play with extended nationset, and/or default
settings, without editing the .sav, it is good to me.
I just noticed that it is possible to change the nationset in the gui, while
keeping the nations random. I thougth you had to pick a nation (non random) in
order to use the extended nationset.
In this case, no need to force the nationset = all.
However, if you use the core nationset, some nations will start in the wrong
places when you play with more than 38 players, because some core nations
share the same starpos. (For example, Romans apearing in Australia because his
starpos is used by Italians).
Maybe we should set the max players to 38, else it looks like the scenario
includes wrong starpos for some core nations.
Besides, the map is too small to actually play with 50 nations. And, if I
remember right, 38 was the max number of players in old freeciv versions.
About the settings, I remember in old versions of freeciv, no matter the
settings you chose in the gui, they were replaced by the settings defined
inside the scenario. That is why I liked to minimize them. But I guess this is
no longer a problem.
