This is the promised reminder. Freeze for the branching starts 22:00 UTC 01-Jan, and lasts until announced otherwise (shouldn't take many hours). I will keep #freeciv-dev irc channel updated about the progress of branching. In a couple of hours it will be too late to submit new patches to get committed before the branching (can't fit the 36h inspection period before the freeze).
