I've been doing that with the other similar options (earlier added by
configure sed-magic), but this one is a bit problematic in that one can only
*add* options via XGETTEXT_OPTIONS so the original woukld remain, and I've yet
to make sure no supported version of xgettext have problems with multiple
--add-comments parameters.
Btw. the same sed magic adds also escapes -parameter and after your patch the
original string no longer matches to what sed looks for -> no parameter added.
My dislike about modifying Makefile.in.in is that it's an upstream file and
any modifications we do to it we have to know to port to new versions when we
update gettext bootstrap files.
