Thanks for your feedback Deb!
I'm aware of the msn logo. But I see no big problem, especially after
their last soft relaunch.
The msn logo is a multicolored, 3D rotated and transparent butterfly.
If you see them side by side they are really different.

Absolutely! This is a very thorough style guide. I really like the
colors and typography. The logo may need more workshopping. Sadly the
first thing I think of when I see the butterfly is the MSN logo. We'd
end up having a more conversations about how we haven't got anything
to do with windows than we'd want.

That said, I do agree that something like a butterfly is more
immediately recognizable than the GNU is -- present company excepted.
Perhaps we should take a look at birds.
The bee is a good suggestion, especially since bees are social and
work in concert to accomplish important tasks, like protecting the
hive. Perhaps a detailed logo would look a lot like a bee and the
abstracted version could be a yellow and black box with wings?
Just brainstorming. Thank you Robert for taking thetime to lay out all
the peices involved in a visual identity!
Cheers,
Deb
