thanks for the newer release.
it indeed saves something like 32 bytes of memory.
I was surprised the /MAX: was in Kilobytes (expected Megabytes like /MAXMEM= has in NT/2000/XP), but this way it does allow to finetune total memory, and thus for instance, determine minimum amount of memory that our Graphical installer uses.
Don't know what happens when using a (too) low value..guess we'll have to find out.
Upper limit: 32bit limit would be 4GB I guess.
Default limit: 4GB?
(LOL, no money to test on a 16GB dual-Opteron system like the Tyan K8W )
if specified limit is smaller than installed memory, remaining amount is discarded? or used as INT15 memory?
/METHOD: only a single value, or can user define a new searchorder? (throwing away all not-specified methods). default: /METHOD:ALWAYSON, BIOS, FAST, PS2, KBC, PORT92 your behaviour: /METHOD:BIOS my suggestion: /METHOD:FAST,PORT92,BIOS (does not even try ALWAYSON, PS2, KBC).
does this mean XMSdsk works for Erwin on those 4GB machines?
I doubt Tom has the time to review your changes and compress it before my release of the next FreeDOS distribution (tomorrow, I'm exceeding my own deadlines..)
following text has been added to Tom's EMM386-package, along with HIMEM64.EXE:
********************* Himem64 is a more recent experimental version of HIMEM.EXE Both support above 64MB of memory, despite the '64' in the newer driver.
added options are: /X disables E820 memory detection. /MAX:xxxx (xxxx in KiloBytes, probably upper value of 4096000 as that is all that 32bit software can handle) /NOABOVE16 modified, disables E801 function calls. May be used together with /X if wanted. /METHOD: select only 1 out of: ALWAYSON, BIOS, FAST, PS2, KBC, PORT92
