I may recommend SST (http://user.rol.ru/~dxover/speedsys/sst478.zip) to perform test of CPU and memory interface throughput.
Looks like BIOS automatically turns caching on (bits off) for me. However, under emulation, only MS-DOS has the bits reset compared to FreeDOS, so apparently MS makes sure by turning off the disable bits themselves. Not the best idea MS ever had, but guess it makes things run faster if caching a) wasn't already turned on by BIOS and b) doesn't fail compatibility with programs which have problems with caching .
