As it turns out, ls only crashes AFTER trying to load VIM with DOSLFN.
 Another program I found that crashes with doslfn loaded and is
compiled with DJGPP is Bolitaire.  It gives a sigfault error message,
but I can still use ls properly afterwards.  Bolitaire works fine
without DOSLFN.  I also tested Nethack, FreeBASIC (not sure if it is
compiled with DJGPP, but it can access LFNs), Free Pascal IDE, and a
Nibbles game I think is compiled with DJGPP, but I expereienced no
problems with these (other than the problems I was already
experiencing with the Free Pascal IDE).  So far only VIM and Boliatire
don't like DOSLFN, but neither of these programs require LFNs to run,
so I doubt that they are accessing LFNs in the background..
