Hi, now that DOSLFN has grown far better than the outdated LFNDOS,
does everybody agree to remove LFNDOS from the official FreeDOS
software list (LSM database)? I am asking because there was once
a project to link LFNDOS to some kernel hooks, allowing a quite
performant LFN support, but now that LFNDOS got so deprecated, I
think we can just as well try to connect DOSLFN to those kernel
hooks as soon as we feel some urge to have high-speed LFN. Note that,
for possible licensing reasons, I am happy that DOSLFN and kernel
are SEPARATE at the moment. You know that what Microsoft is calling
"patents on FAT32" are all actually patents on VFAT and on their
way of doing efficient processing of that kludgy LFN "protocol"
(data structures). And those are actually NOT old enough to get in-
valid any soon. It is only that MS has TOLD the world once that OS
developers are explicitly allowed to be compatible to all their FAT
stuff... Long before they tried to get license fees from FAT32 users
like digicam or mp3stick producers, that is.

Eric
