Hi,
I am just starting to prepare for compiling FreeCOM. should I stick to
docs\compile.txt or is there any other explanation?

It should be fine. If you build on Windows be sure to use the win
version of nasm, and every so often the build may fail in the middle (I
think the actual error was file in use, more likely to happen if
explorer window open to directory building from), then just do a clean
and try again. Also, Borland tools may need to be in your path (not
sure if that is a version specific thing or not though). If you run
into any problems let me know. Since Steffen added the mini suppl
library, it should be a simple matter of getting source from cvs (or
tarball from fdos.org kernel dir), modifying the two files, one for
compiler paths and other for options to compile in, and running build
xms-swap [language].
(please resend me the questions I didn't answer about the kernel issue)
Thanks,
Jeremy
