I did use DeSmet C in the early days of PCs and DOS, before there was
a Turbo/Borland C, then I switched, as the older DeSmet compilers
were not ANSI compatible and Borlands compiler has a real nice IDE
and debugger included. It did however always do a quite decent job
for small utilities.

DeSmet C, even in the ANSI version (which I never used, as I had
already switched) will be far from being Borland "compatible", but
that might mainly be an issue of the libraries, which could be adapted/created.

What IMHO makes this compiler interesting for FreeDOS
users/developers is that in fact it not only produces 16 bit DOS
executables, but other then OpenWatcom, will also run on a 16 bit DOS
system, with fairly small system requirements.
