Hi Jim, I think I use a reduced local install. My .xinitrc says:

mkfontdir $HOME/.dosemu
xset fp+ $HOME/.dosemu

... where ~/.dosemu contains my copy of vga.pcf.gz ...
(no fonts.* and no other *.pcf* files there)

I still wonder why xdosemu wants to use the font, I had
assumed it would always use the virtual BIOS font for
xdosemu and only use a PCF font for (non-x) dosemu in
a terminal (xterm, konsole, ...) in recent versions?
