Hi all, Lucho told me that DOS LINK and Win32 MASM are online on the MS homepage. While the license is worse than the JWasm one (eg no 8.0 commercial use) it can still be interesting for comparing MASM to JWASM... Enjoy :-)
LINK for DOS is here: >> ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/Softlib/MSLFILES/LNK563.EXE Masm versions 6 and 8 for Win32 (which work in DOS if you use the HXRT extender) are "available" as part of updates for Visual C++ Express Edition 2005 and VB 6.0. If you do not have those, Lucho has described some workarounds in the drdosprojects forum to grab ML (MASM and LINK in one file) but as that is not so nice/smooth license wise, I suggest the following: At least in Germany, the "Express Edition" of Popfly, MS SQL Server 2005, Visual WebDeveloper 2008 and the (command line only?) compilers for VB, VC#, VC++ are pretty free - you only have to register after 1 month but you can even use them commercially, explained on >> http://microsoft.com/germany/express/ :-). The two updates which contain MASM versions are here: >> download.microsoft.com/download/vb60ent/update/6/w9x2kxp/en-us/vcpp5.exe (contains MASM ML 6.15, but needs VB 6.0, I guess, for Win9x and up) >> www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7A1C9DA0-0510-44A2-B042-7EF370530C64 (contains MASM 8.0, but needs VC++ Express Edition 2005, for Win2k/WinXP) The download page for MASM 8 also mentions some "VC++ 2005 redistributable package" with files like the MSVCR80 DLL, but even if you have that, the MASM installer will still complain that you have no VC++ EE 2005... So I suggest you get that first - as explained above, it is free anyway and I do not like the MASM trickery to grab the file directly. All downloads except LINK for DOS require Windows during the install and Windows or HXRT or similar to run MASM, so I did not try any of them myself. Please let me know if the MASM 8 installer works smoothly after you install the current or maybe another free version of VC++ EE.
