Hi,
starting with the ticket: https://sourceforge.net/p/freedos/bugs/87/  (I think modifying the text in kpdos is not very urgent) I tested the actual
FDT2409 live ISO with hebrew keyboard. The result is as follows:
There is no codepage prepared / installed.
FDT simply installs "mkeyb he" - nothing else.
"mkeyb he" says that you have to press right CTRL (Strg) button to change to hebrew.

a) In virtualbox right CTRL is used for switching mouse from inside of virtualbox to your system and back. So right CTRL is not the optimum. But it works on a real machine.

b) If you install the codepage settings he characters are shown in command line and in edit. But as "he" is in "bidi" (characters are written from right to left) it is not usable, as you would have "this is my new text" as follows: "txet wen ym si siht" to make it readable from right to left.
There is a tool named "mined" (one of the editors on FDT) where you can do so, but unfortunately it does not work. Simple reason: You have to execute "mined" with latin characters, then you have to press "CTRL" to change from latin characters to "he" characters and to type your text. Within mined "CTRL" does not work - even on a real machine. This is the actual situation.

c) I tested the same with "keyb" instead of "mkeyb" and installed the codepages etc. Keyb uses "ALT+left SHIFT" to use latin characters and "ALT+right SHIFT" to use hebrew characters. It has no problems with using virtualbox (others???) and you can run "ALT+left SHIFT" and "ALT+right SHIFT" WITHIN mined. So it is possible to open the program, switch to hebrew characters and write the text from right to left. When everything is done, you switch back to "ALT+left SHIFT" and save the text. Works great.

So my proposal is to change the installation routine for hebrew to using "keyb" instead of "mkeyb" and to add the codepages there.

d) The same behaviour also works with arabic and north african keyboard characters that are not (yet) part of the distribution. So we could add three working characters
for these countries.

Could some check and confirm this?
Would there be a permission from Jim to try this?

Willi
