Hi everyone,

I was pondering the packages included on the LiveCD. There is a lot of stuff
there and most likely additional things will be added in the future.

Why do we need a FULL install anymore?

FDIMPLES is extremely easy to use.

We could just install “BASE” with or w/o sources and inform the end user to use
FDIMPLES to install any additional packages they wish after installation.

Alternatively…

Under advanced mode, there is an option in the installer to customize the
packages installed along with BASE and FULL. This the original purpose for
FDIMPLES and where it gets its name.

We could just drop the FULL option from the installer menu and always show the
option which customizes the installed packages.

During the install process, that customization works by having the installer
pass the list of packages to FDIMPLES. FDIMPLES makes changes to the list.
Then, it passes the new list back to the installer. Which then installs the
packages using a package manager.

The list could start out with just the BASE packages or the Full set of
packages on the media. Or even, a different set of “recommended” packages.

Actually, there is no reason not just do both. Plus, add a message at boot that
mentions using FDIMPLES to remove or add additional packages from the
installation media.

:-)
