Hi All,

There appears to be a serious compatibility issue with the latest VirtualBox
(7.1.2) and FreeDOS.

First, I was able to squeeze the time in to update detection of the newer
VirtualBox in (V8PowerTools) VINFO command. Not a difficult task and only took
a few minutes.

So when I booted the LiveCD, it properly identified that Virtual Platform and I
was able to install FreeDOS T2410 without issue.

Booting the installed system, at first, all seems good. VirtualBox is detected,
FDNET starts up as it should, mTCP’s can ping google.com <http://google.com/>.

Booting the LiveCD again. VirtualBox is Detected, by design you must manually
start FDNET on the LiveCD, it starts, cannot ping google.com
<http://google.com/>.

Not sure why it is doing that. Possibly a setting in VirtualBox. However, I
tried switching it to bridged mode. Afterwards, networking would not work. I
even switched it back too NAT. No luck. I needed to delete the VM and reinstall
to get it working again. :-(

But while messing around with all this stuff, I found an even bigger issue.

UNZIP, P7ZIP and possibly other programs now immediately cause an exception and
crash the VM. I even had it happen booting in emergency mode (no memory
manager, no drivers).

Simply running "p7zip /?” Or just an “unzip” will cause VirtualBox to stop the
VM.

Not good. :-(

Since, the installer does not use them (it uses FDINST) to install packages, it
is not affected by this issue.

Jerome
