I think you misinterpret me. I think there is basically zero chance MS will make Windows 1, 2 or 3 FOSS. (I suspect it's ashamed of the code, if it still has it at all. FOSS MS-DOS 4 only happened because an external 3rd party found the code.) As such there is no prospect of the real thing in FreeDOS. So I took the stipulated suggestion of DV/X _or_ Win3 to mean _something broadly functionally equivalent_. Something with: [_] windowing, including of existing DOS apps; [_] with a GUI; [_] with some of its own apps; [_] with the ability to run others; [_] something with some form of multitasking on top of plain unmodified FreeDOS. As far as I know, PC GEOS ticks all of those boxes. I know of nothing else that does.
