I have been cleaning without alcohol floppy disks with opacity and somethinglike fungi or mold, with water from a 4/5-stage reverse osmosisfilter, several hyssops with water, then I clean with water withless force than the floppy head, slowly, then also slowly I remove thewater, spin the disk, blow air, until it looks perfectly clean again. I need a 360K floppy drive, years ago I tried to read the disk thatcontained ZULIA in its dirty state in a 1.22MB drive, but I thinkthat the sector 0 was completely scratched by it, and the rest of themedia, the FAT tables and content, will still probably be OK if Iclean the disk slowly, get a perfectly working 360K drive, and readthe rest of the sectors with RAWRITE for Windows, reconstructingany damaged sectors, chances are that the ZULIA file will beundamaged and unfragmented, it is a very resistant floppyfrom the Pascal/MT+ era. I will try to rescue all my old floppies, 5 1/4 and 3 1/2 in this way, will practice first with new floppies or other floppies that I'm surethat are not important, and when I see that I can clean them in some waywithout alcohol without losing any data, I will clean my unrecoverabledisks in that same way.

There are several others: https://archive.org/details/HGCIBM202 and a whole page about them https://www.dosdays.co.uk/topics/cga_simulators_for_hercules.php I also hacked on one myself but I don't know if I still have it somewhere. Some would use the timer interrupt to fill in (copy from above) the missing lines to stretch from 200 lines on CGA to 300 on HGC but various other tricks were possible. Some games (digger iirc) would query the vertical retrace via port 3da which wouldn't work so I patched the binary by looking for the hex string "BA DA 03" (mov dx, 3dah) and patch it to "BA BA 03", or maybe NOP out a back jump, my memory is foggy there as well. Good luck!
