Yes, you have asked about these before. We discussed these on the
email list months ago.

The discussion right now is to drop FDTUI entirely, not move it to a
different package group. (Also, FDTUI is not a GUI, so it doesn't
belong in "GUI" anyway.)

But I infer from your email that your vote is "-1 (no)" on dropping FDTUI.

The package description is "Bootfix is a boot sector repair tool" so
I'm okay moving this to "BOOT" if it's not a problem for Jerome to
move it. (If it's a problem to do so, then let's leave it where it is
for FreeDOS 1.4.)

> - add METAKERN to BOOT

Metakern is a boot selector that lets you select a different DOS or
Windows kernel. I don't see "Metakern" on either the FreeDOS 1.3
report or the RC1 report, which suggests it's not part of FreeDOS 1.3
either. (links below) Didn't we decide to drop Metakern from the
distribution a long time ago, at the same time that we decided to drop
Grub2? Are you suggesting we re-add it?

This is the Syslinux bootloader collection, and I doubt it is used by
many people. I think I'd rather not have us go through this change for
the one or two people in the world who need it, when those people also
know how to find it as Syslnx.

> - move CDROM2UI to SOUND

This tool's description is "A small tool to eject, close_track, lock,
unlock or reset any CD-ROM, selected by the drive letter." Does this
tool also play music? Why move it to "SOUND"?

I don't see this in the RC1 report. Are you suggesting adding this package?

We discussed "EDIT" and "DISK" months ago and I still think these are
better suited for the BonusCD. I don't imagine people will want to
install any of the editors unless they are also doing more advanced
stuff like writing programs, and "DEVEL" is also on the BonusCD
anyway. The "DISK" group has programs that most users will not use
anyway like Raread and Zerofill, so keeping them on the BonusCD is a
good place to put them.

We discussed these months ago, I don't know why we would move them
around now when we are about to go forward with RC2 and then FreeDOS
1.4.

Yes, but with the space limitation, I think dividing the development
stuff (compilers, etc) and other more "advanced" tools to be on the
2nd CD ("BonusCD") is a good compromise.

With what we had decided to have on the 1st CD ("LiveCD") means that
when you do a "Full installation with application and games" (menu
action in the installer) you get all of "Base" (the core parts of DOS)
plus "Applications" (like DN2 and FDIMPLES), "Archivers" (like zip and
arj), "Drivers" (like doslfn and sbemu), "Games" (like Wing and
Bolitaire), "Networking" (to get online) plus a few cool extras like
"Tools" (which are mostly to support the installation process) and
"Unix" (for Linux-like commands).

The 2nd CD ("BonusCD") has the stuff that more "expert" users will
care about: "Boot tools" (syslinux), "Development" (compilers and
assemblers), "Disk utilities" (like Raread and Zerofill), "Editors"
(like vim and fed) and the extra utilities ("Utilities" group).

If you want to make a case to move things around, bring it up again
when we discuss "FreeDOS 2.0" (after the new kernel is available).
We've "pushed" conversations about other package cleanup to "2.0" so I
think this can wait until then too.
