Hi! It bothers me a bit to use mail like chat but...

To be honest, I have not studied the differences between
the 0.6, 0.7 and later versions in detail. I took the current
version and started fixing things that bothered me :)

If you think that we should rollback changes introduced by
later versions, please let me know...

Joe's versions are not strictly LATER at some point,
there were quite a few improvement ideas for Joe's
version 0.6, so I forked 0.6a 0.6b 0.6c 0.6d 0.6e and
0.7a 0.7b 0.7c and 0.7d and you can find all 0.7x on:

Later, Joe picked up his versions and made 0.8, 0.81
and 0.82 which your fork is based on. While the 0.8x
series re-implemented some of my stuff, the forked
versions remain forked.

Importantly, I suggested that you test my versions
a few months ago :-) You replied on 2025-02-20:

Hi Eric!

1) FreeDOS EDIT wastes five lines of space for displaying
garbage. Five out of 25 for crap like "borders"!

2) The constantly flashing mouse cursor is driving me nuts.
It seems to constantly update the screen even if nothing is "going on".

War das bei EDIT 0.7a/b/c/d auch schon so?

Habe es gerade getestet. Bei 0.7d flackert der Mauscursor nicht.
Eine Wohltat :)

VG Bernd

So I had hoped you used my flicker free implementation and
other goodies to make a fork containing the best of both
series, 0.8x by Joe and 0.7x by me :-)

Given that D-Flat is event driven, it took me some tuning
to get EDIT behave properly while keeping CPU load low.

Alas the thing is too long ago for me to remember details.

Regards, Eric

PS: If we really want to discuss about saving a few 100 bytes
by removing features: The Turbo C EDIT 0.7d was only 60kB ;-)
