The sort of editor that can edit a >1GB text file in DOS is potentially
the same sort of editor that can edit a >640KB text file on an XT. So
while a GB-capable editor is less likely to be desired, a MB-capable
editor is a thing that people would want, at least every now and then.
As for SVED, while it's not one of those sorts of editors (it's an
everything-in-RAM editor), it's lightweight and looks like it could be a
useful editor. I have yet to use it in anger, however, so I cannot
personally vouch for it at this stage.
I suspect one day it'll end up in FreeDOS, but that's merely a prediction.
