Yeah yeah noted, back to the point.. Linux will require changes so why
not FreeDOS and this is only a California law. Why does the rest of
the world care?
If you are using an open source system what stops someone from
skipping or removing it in a fresh build?
As a single user os it shouldn't matter but it's a blanket law.
Laws, anywhere in the world, are written by lawyers, for lawyers. A lot
of that for Joe and Jane Average reading it might not make sense.
But as I mentioned, this is all just brewing up a tempest in a tea cup,
there simply isn't a way that this could ever be applied to FreeDOS, or
any other DOS. There simply isn't a concept of "account" in DOS, and it
would be rather far fetched to apply this to some applications like
fdpkg16. And I don't think that there ever would be something "not kid
friendly" like Leisure Suit Larry would be available through that... LOL
Unfortunately, I lost easy access to our previous local state assembly
member in our area (Portantino) when the changes the borders of some
districts a couple of years ago and he no longer ran. I will see if his
former assistant, who was our contact for the civic association, can
provide still some insights on how this is supposed to be applied/enforced.
And I guess this will be, maybe, a topic a the Linux conference SCaLE,
with the 23rd edition starting this Thursday here in Los Angeles (well,
Pasadena), there are booths and talks from almost all common Linux
distros (and then some), where someone mentioned that this would have
become a topic (or not)...
