Hi Bruce,

I saw your mail on the FreeDOS mailing list. Here is what I found out:

Modern graphics cards may make use of the segment at B000h in high resolution VESA modes. If you tell EMM386 to map upper mem to this area, the video BIOS will overwrite it and any drivers or data that may reside within that UMB. I had this problem with my Voodoo Banshee card, and it took me quite some time to figure out why my software would crash in some video modes for no apparent reason.

So I would strongly advise *not* to map any upper mem to the B000h segment unless you definetely know what you are doing.

If you do not mind, I would also like to ask you to forward this info to the FreeDOS mailing list.
