Many thanks for your help. The good news is, yes, my program now runs successfully under FreeDOS.

Alas, the old (pre-1997) machine I've set up with FreeDOS reports that my c:\ drive (in LBA mode) does not support ultraDMA, so udma2.sys wasn't loaded.
