Not nescessarily, using Erik Engelke (WatTcp author) FTP.exe, I can transfer files at 3Mbytes/s in pure FreeDOS, I don't remember if I timed it in dosemu, but it is reasonably fast... The big problem is to setup tap+bridge+... I found no clear tutorial or script.
