Hi blair, a touch in context.
> > To use cdrkit or cdrecord, you will need a regular cd/dvd driver such > as uide, and after that is loaded you will also need to load aspi.sys I run ms dos 7.1 exclusively on this machine, which includes its to load driver. My drive now is presently recognized, I play Cd's with it, load files programs burned to it and the like. I take it then that the file used to load the driver below should be the same used to load the cdrw driver? I had asked config.sys or autoexec.bat > (http://www.wolfgang-brinkmann.de/bcdw/aspi.sys). got it. >From there cdrecord > or cdrkit should recognize the drive; you can run for example > "[cdrecord|wodim] -scanbus" to see if it is recognized. Excellent! thanks. I'm not sure > where you can find the most recent dos port of cdrecord, but you can > find cdrkit on my website When I googled cdrecord yesterday, I found the new packages now called cdrtools. It indeed includes utilities for burning audio cds, which will be fun. > (http://sites.google.com/site/blairdude/cdrkit). You should be able > to burn CDs or DVDs with this software, but remember that there are > still no UDF drivers available for DOS, so once you have burned a DVD, > you might not be able to read it under DOS. > that's not even an interest. the drive is a Sony cdrw, not a DVD burner. besides I have a real DVD player attached to my television for watching films. Seriously though, I do have a usb DVD burner reserved for a still nonfunctional Linux machine. If I have to burn DVD images for Linux later, I would not be reading them here. Thanks for such a helpful reply. I am still laughing at a private note From Eric asking if I had tried ubinsu Linux, since it comes with braille things. Never mind that a good 90% of those experiencing vision loss no longer read braille. and of course it seemed a very odd question from a Dos supporter, grin. besides, if I am going to install any Linux images, I must use my dos broadband dsl connection to download them, and my dos computer to burn them smiles. Thanks for getting me closer to all of it.
