Hi!
The easiest method to use USB sticks in FreeDOS is to boot from them.
For all other cases, you will usually need some sort of driver first.
The USBASPI you mention is probably old and propietary, try USBDOS
which is open source and more modern :-)
https://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/repositories/unstable/html/en/drivers/usbdos/20250410.1/index.html
Or try DOSUSB, which is a demo version of a commercial driver:

There also is a driver by Crazii, called USBDDOS:
https://github.com/crazii/USBDDOS
I have no experience with that, but Crazii's SBEMU is quite nice :-)
It is a SoundBlaster 16 emulator for people with modern sound chipsets
(nForce, Intel Ich, SiS 7021, Intel HDA, SB Live, SB Audigy incl. LS,
VIA VT82c686 and VT8233 and VT8237, Ensoniq ES1371 and ES1373, C-Media
CMI8338 and CMI8738, possibly VIA VT8235, maybe Creative X-Fi, also,
from Linux, Emu20k, YMF7x4, ALS4000, CMI8788 Oxygen, ESS Allegro ES1988S
and ES1989S, Trident 4D Wave and so on) :-)
For creating bootable USB sticks instead, there are a
few tutorials and tools which can be found online :-)
Regards, Eric
