I've now also tested 1.2.1 on my test machine (having Ubuntu 14.04 on the client although), and there are no issues on my test system - so I'm very sure that the old version of freeipmi is not causing the issue.
Regarding the other test (using a user with operator rights, and sending me the bmc-config settings) I'm waiting on the feedback of the admin. I'll let you know once I know more.
