Very nice. I am happy to implement your proposals, but there still are 
some more questions about the selection colors:

What does your proposal mean for the user defined selection colors? 
Should the possibility to define standard background and text color of 
selected nodes be removed? What meaning could have a selected color set 
by user in the opposite case? Should the resulting color be a function 
of user defined selected color and of the node colors?

Further, should the edge colors be considered either?
