Well, you did mention copyright.net specifically, and it is worth
mentioning here on -dev (it has been mentioned on -chat) that the DMCA
does make people liable for falsely attempting to remove content from
ISPs.  While I agree with Oskar that it is preferable not to rely on the
law for protection, when talking about copyright.net specifically, this
makes their automatic shotgun approach *extremely* risky from their
perspective.

I don't nescessarily agree that we won't have sufficient deployment
before someone tries to ban Freenet (which is effectively what the DMCA
may allow), but if that was to happen, then we could see an effect
anyway where every script-kiddie would jump to install the software -
just for the rebel value of it.  Recall that this happened with the
crypto-export laws and those Perl signatures which implemented RSA -
remembering that the penalties for exporting munitions were much more
severe than those permitted under the DMCA for hosting copyrighted
material.
