Thank you very much for both you answers.  I'll give your suggestions a
go, but I think your comments are quite correct "Hmm.. if your GCC
doesn't work on NT, then there's not much that can be done."  I'm going
to replace the versions of make and gcc also, and if that fails, I'll
just have to get my hands on a lynx box.

  You've enabled the developer flags from the top-level configure
file, OR you've got a 'CVS' directory there.

  Try:

./configure --disable-developer

  That may help...
