All should work quite fine. For administration reasons you should probably use
MySQL or LDAP. We are using iPlanet LDAP Server 5.0 with around 50000 users
without any problems. Both the mysql and ldap modules are multithreaded and work
great. You should probably worry about tuning your mysql or ldap server than the
radius server.

Not much really. You should use RAM though for the mysql or ldap servers
(caches, buffers etc) and for the OS caches (Directory and Buffer caches).

As long as you have enough memory for caching the I/O subsystem wont make much
difference.

doc/tuning_guide sould give you a few guielines.
