Thanks for a very helpful response. I downloaded the snapshot and now it compiles and installs without a hitch (in /usr/local/freeradius). However, I have a problem running radtest (after running run-radiusd -X -A (following the procedure at http://www.impossiblereflex.com/8021x/eap-tls-HOWTO.htm#7, substituting /etc/1x by /etc/raddb/certs), I get the following o/p :
