Some on-line publications do write articles about FreeRADIUS. But one (which shall remain nameless) actually contacted me to say they were going to do RADIUS server testing, comparison, and benchmarking. After exchanging a number of emails, they stopped responding to me. The article eventually came out, and the only mention of FreeRADIUS was how hard it was to install. That's a load of bull. The commecial servers come in packages which work on particular platforms. Did these guys bother to use an RPM? Obviously not. And from reading the review, it was clear that FreeRADIUS has more features and is more configurable than 4 out of 5 products they reviewed. THAT'S why they didn't discuss FreeRADIUS: the commercial people saw a pre-print in which an open source product trounced them, and they probably threated to pull their advertising dollars unless mention of FreeRADIUS was deleted. > Don't know what PC magazine of ZD and others are doing, though ... > IMO, FreeRadius is only now beginning to gain momentum in terms of > publicity. Definitely. I'm aware of at least two, and I suspect three, startups which use FreeRADIUS as part of their offerings. Novell has indicated that they're moving away from their proprietary server to FreeRADIUS. It's definitly starting to get noticed. Alan DeKok. - List info/subscribe/unsubscribe?
