I have no experience with different WLAN Cards than 3com, MSI, SITECOM, Intel (centrino), Netgear and Arcadya.
But they all worked perfectly until now. If you want to use WPA, all clients MUST support it obviously. I am using a second unit to provide WEP RADIUS for those clients that don't support WPA.

Actually my experiences with linksys routers are limited to the WRT54G model which is 99% the same as the GS except for the better wlan transmission.

To answer your main question, i did try the official firmware but i had several problems. First of all, the AP would suddenly disappear from all clients site survey after i switched to WPA RADIUS. Then, when using WEP RADIUS i experienced hang-ups of the WLAN interface of the AP that could be resolved by making a wired client hit the apply button on one of the wireless settings configuration pages.

Yes, to sum it up, the 5.4 release of sveasofts firmware is actually the first ever firmware that worked perfectly off the scratch for me. 6.0.RC1 is also smoothly working.

Hope that helps .. my advice is to invest in the 20$ sveasoft charges for a year of support and firmware since i am very satisfied with the support they offer.

At the moment it works perfectly, using either WPA RADIUS or WEP RADIUS.

But you should consider that WEP RADIUS does not automatically change
the WEP key and all communications will be encryptet with the one key
you enter in the web configuration console.

Did you ever try the official firmware?

I have a WRT54GS now. I plan to upgrade to the latest official firmware
first. I'm temporarily running 64-bit WEP until I get around to securing
things more. The plan is to get WPA RADIUS working. I have an Orinoco
Gold classic 11b client; hopefully that will not be a problem.
