I AM SO SORRY EVERYONE,
I feel bad now that I have posted all over this list and it turned out to be such a stupid thing. I knew it had to be something like that!!! Obviously it's working now. I do thank you all for all your input!!
It worked from a compiled freeradius and an rpm install of mysql 4.1.10a. After I manaully removed all files from the system that had anything to do with radius and freeradius then ldconfig and then recompile freeradius - it worked.
I have seen others posting with a segmentation vault error - that is the error that I was getting at first. Perhaps this wasn't a waste of a post. At least we know what direction to tell the others to go in when this error appears.
