Logging - auth failure reason

I'm having trouble with logging: I am trying to expose the reason 
authentication failed to a script called via mod_exec

I tried using Module-Failure-Message but it appears to be blank, even 
though running -X shows what I am trying to get out.

i'm using radiusd version 1.0.5 from source.
