It's nice to hear it works with win2008r2, the one I haven't tested. 
Windows 7 should work even with or without SP1, but maybe as Jay pointed 
out it requires Ultimate or Enterprise.

Unfortunately this seems not possible, since the channel plugin (as most 
other channel plugins) works passively, and if the server does not 
activate the channel, there's no way for the client to know.
