[problems with ld using libraries from /usr/local/lib in Mandrake]
RedHat 6.1 has the same problem. Editing ld.so.conf and running ldconfig or
just running ldconfig with the /usr/local/lib directory sometimes solved my
problems and sometimes didn't. (I've gone through many installs.) The only
thing that worked reliably for me was forcibly removing ld's cache then
running ldconfig with an edited conf, but that seems like a rather
graceless way of doing things. Out of curiousity, was there something I was
missing?
