Another slew of updates and fixes to sdl_driver:

* return values trapped where relevant
* much more detailed error reporting
* properly sets the "best" display depth..
* gfx_grab_pixmap acually retutns success now...
* a lot of other things.

gfx_test:  added a c_quit dummy so that the gfx_test compiles cleanly
with the SDL target.
