1) XShmPixmaps work in 24bpp modes now.
2) attempt high depths first.  (ie 32bpp->8bpp)

I don't know if this fix for the XShmPixmap code will work for 32bpp
depths, as I don't have any graphics hardware that runs in 32bpp depths
(according to X).  So give it a shot, and let me know if it works.
